Independence Day: Myth vs Fact

Independence Day is a time for celebration and reflection. It marks the anniversary of a nation’s freedom and the enduring spirit of its people. Families and friends gather to enjoy parades, fireworks, and barbecues, sharing in the joy of the occasion. Amidst the festivities, it’s also a moment to honor those who have fought for freedom and to contemplate the values that bind a nation together.

This post is about the myths vs facts in the evolution of the 4th of July, some trivia, and Florida's role. The centerpiece of this Independence Day post is a reading of the masterpiece we call the Declaration of Independence.

Their Legacy Was Forged From the Road

🔹Let's Keep the Highwaymen Legacy Alive.

The Florida Highwaymen were a collective of self‑taught Black artists who transformed the visual identity of the Treasure Coast through bold, roadside landscape paintings. Their work is now recognized as a significant chapter of American cultural heritage, rooted in Fort Pierce and shaped by the region’s history, environment, and community.

They built their legacy on the road. It's only fitting that we name a road in Fort Pierce after them. Read the full story → Florida Highwaymen
