National Dog day

🐾National Dog Day 2026: Embrace the Pawsitive Vibes! 🐕🦮🐕‍🦺🐩

National Dog Day, observed each year on August 26th, was founded by Colleen Paige, an animal advocate and pet lifestyle expert, in 2004. The purpose behind creating this observance was to shine a light on the plight of abused and abandoned dogs and to encourage people to consider adopting from shelters and rescue organizations.

It's a perfect day to Adopt a dog.

🔶Heat Stroke is an Emergency

🔸Know the signs.   Heat stroke can come on quickly if it’s sweltering or you’re overexerting yourself. That’s why it’s important to begin treatment at the first signs of heat exhaustion. Heat stroke can be much more serious than heat exhaustion and requires immediate medical attention to prevent complications.

Know the Facts and Prevent Hot Car Deaths

🚸Kids love playing hide-and-seek, but a car should never be their hiding spot. What feels like a game can quickly turn dangerous if they get trapped inside. Remind your children that cars are off-limits for play.

🚸Make it a habit to lock your car every time you leave it.

what is killing fish in port st lucie

🥬The question is no longer whether Port St. Lucie uses herbicides.

It’s whether the City is presenting a clear view to the public on how they’re being managed.

Port St. Lucie’s canals and lakes are part of a massive stormwater system that requires constant management. Herbicides, algaecides, and other treatments are routine tools. But after recent fish kills, including one that occurred shortly after a chemical treatment, residents deserve clearer answers about how these tools are being used.

What's the answer?

Lightning Safety

If you're inside during a thunderstorm, here are some precautions to take:

• Avoid using corded phones, but it's fine to use cell phones or cordless phones.

• Do not lie on concrete floors or lean against concrete walls.

• Stay away from windows and doors, and stay off porches.

• Don't use any electrical equipment that's connected to an outlet, including computers.

• It's best to stay away from the shower or any plumbing, like washing dishes, and avoid windows and doors.

Their Legacy Was Forged From the Road

🔹Let's Keep the Highwaymen Legacy Alive.

The Florida Highwaymen were a collective of self‑taught Black artists who transformed the visual identity of the Treasure Coast through bold, roadside landscape paintings. Their work is now recognized as a significant chapter of American cultural heritage, rooted in Fort Pierce and shaped by the region’s history, environment, and community.

They built their legacy on the road. It's only fitting that we name a road in Fort Pierce after them. Read the full story → Florida Highwaymen
