Candidate Profile

Mayor Shannon Martin

Email smartinforpsl@gmail.com

Candidate's Statement

Shannon Martin has served Port St. Lucie since 2010—as District 3 City Councilmember, Vice Mayor (2016–2021), and now the city’s 15th Mayor. She was elected in a 2021 special election and re-elected by a super-majority in 2022.

A paralegal by profession, Shannon moved to Port St. Lucie with her husband, Aaron, and their two children twenty years ago. Soon after arriving, she began attending City Council and Planning and Zoning meetings, motivated by a desire to help build a vibrant community.

Leadership in Action

During the post-recession recovery, she helped lead 10 consecutive years of millage reductions, reduced city debt, strengthened Port St. Lucie’s finances, and improved the city’s bond ratings.

Infrastructure development

Mayor Martin has overseen major road projects, including the Crosstown Parkway extension and the widening of Port St. Lucie Boulevard South, along with other improvements funded by the half-cent sales tax.

She continues to advocate for repairing aging roads, improving traffic flow, and enhancing pedestrian safety by working with city, county, and state partners to secure funding and advance projects that improve daily life, economic growth, and public safety.

Economic growth

Mayor Martin has helped drive development in the Southern Grove Jobs Corridor, attracting employers such as TAMCO, FedEx, Amazon, Accel, and Cheney Brothers in record time. These projects have expanded quality job opportunities and helped shift more of the tax burden from residents to commercial and industrial growth.

Quality of Life and Sustainability

Committed to quality of life, Mayor Martin has advanced the 10-year Parks & Recreation Master Plan, including Woodland Trails Park, Winterlakes Park, Pioneer Park, Torino Park, and Tradition Regional Park. Since January 2025, the city added more than 280 acres to its Naturally PSL Green Space Program and acquired the 105-acre Rosser Lakes Preserve. Water quality projects also remain key environmental priorities.

Public Safety

Mayor Martin has prioritized keeping Port St. Lucie Florida’s safest large city. She supported the addition of Police Districts 5 and 6 and helped advance the new Police Training Facility, opening this summer to strengthen officer readiness.

She also championed the City’s Public Safety Operations Center, which will use technology and real-time data to improve traffic flow, coordinate maintenance, support emergency response, and keep residents informed. Her leadership has helped maintain low crime rates during rapid population growth.

Public Engagement

Mayor Martin regularly connects with residents through “Mornings with Mayor Martin,” monthly e-newsletters, community forums, and speaking engagements, demonstrating her commitment to transparency, public involvement, and open communication.

Under her leadership, Port St. Lucie was named a 2025 All-America City Winner for collaborative civic innovation. She has also championed smart growth, balanced development, and the protection of green space during a period of unprecedented population expansion.

Civic Roles & Community Involvement

Mayor Martin serves on the St. Lucie County Transportation Planning Organization, the St. Lucie County Fire District Board of Commissioners (Chair), the St. Lucie County Council on Aging, the Humane Society of St. Lucie County (Chair), and the Florida Coast Medical Center Board of Governors.

Mayor Martin’s leadership is defined by fiscal responsibility, infrastructure investment, public safety, strong community engagement, and sustainable growth. With a focus on putting residents first, she continues to guide Port St. Lucie toward a prosperous and inclusive future.

In her spare time, Mayor Martin enjoys camping, traveling, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
